As you might have read already on the homepage, my name is Xander.
I'm a hobbyist programmer who likes to make games in his spare time.
How I started:
I was 15 years old when I first got into programming. After doing some research about languages, I decided C++ would be a good starting point. Not an easy first language, but I'd have to learn it eventually so I thought I might just as well go for it. Armed with one book and the internet I started my coding journey. After a few months I felt it was time to leave the console and try GUI developing for the first time. After reading up on some of the available frameworks, I fell in love with Qt on first sight. Simple and cross-platform, what more can one ask for? After another month or two I thought it was time to try out some other languages perhaps. I decided to check out Python. I used Project Euler to learn it. While it was a pleasure to code with, it just didn't stick. Afterwards I tried some other scripting languages like Lua and Ruby, but I didn't really like them. At around this time I felt I was ready to dive into game programming (the reason I got into this, after all). I played around a bit in OpenGL and made a few games (mostly classics: snake, pong, etc). Then I discovered SFML. It suited my needs perfectly, and from then on all my games were made with it. I currently have 2 projects running, using SFML. I've also dabbled into web development for a while, but I was not the artist needed to make really beautiful websites. I might give it another try soon, though!
